Falling in love with Northern Colorado
If you know me personally or stay updated with my blog, you know that I love to travel all over the west coast and all over the state of Colorado. Usually, when I'm in the mood for adventure, I drive west. (Living in Denver, the mountains and pretty much all the best places are west of the city.) However, I recently decided to stay in the front range mountains and head north to get out of town for the weekend.
I've actually only been to Fort Collins a couple of times and it was always because I was promoting or photographing an event so I never spent any time actually exploring the town. I wasn't sure what to expect.
I ended up having a very therapeutic time in Fort Collins. Sometimes getting out of the 5280 for a couple days is the best thing I can do for myself. While in FoCo I got to practice yoga, hangout at Horse tooth Reservoir and enjoy old town during the "Tour De Fat" which is a bike parade sponsored by Fat Tire beer. The entire town dressed up in costumes and rode their bicycles throughout the town. Everyone was so happy to be enjoying such a fun day with their groups all dressed up. I saw the justice league, aliens, pac man, Star Wars characters, and countless other costumes. It was like Halloween in the Summer time! I was so excited that I happened to visit on such a fun filled day.
I bopped around old town, which is filled with restaurants. boutiques, vintage stores and music shops and seemed to make friends with the locals everywhere I went. Everyone I encountered in Fort Collins was so incredibly sweet to me and inviting. So much so, that I felt at home in a place I barely knew.
My absolute favorite part of FoCo however is just outside of town, at Horse Tooth Reservoir. It is a drop dead gorgeous reservoir that lines the mountain side. Sparkling, warm water, sandy beaches and all the locals relaxing and enjoying the end of Summer time. People were swimming, paddle boarding, boating and jet skiing. I lounged on the beach, swam a bit and soaked up my chance to chill in such a relaxing and gorgeous place.
I also checked out the Colorado State University campus and discovered a beautiful garden with every kind of Colorado flower you could imagine! It was the perfect place to do a walking meditation and some morning asana.
Of course, I also found my way to some of the local parks and stopped at one that had a beautiful river flowing through it. Town's with rivers are definitely my favorite. We may be landlocked in CO but we definitely find a lot of ways to play in the water!
After my first weekend up in Fort Collins, I couldn't wait to go back. I ended up making a day trip the following weekend just to get out of the city for a bit. It's less than 2 hours out of Denver and a flat drive the entire time- which is a nice change of pace from driving up and down mountain sides all the time.
Something about this place just puts me into a really good state of mind. When I'm here, I feel like I attract nothing but positive energy. Last trip, I was told about "Fortoberfest" which is Fort Collin's Octoberfest at the end of September. You better believe I already have my AirBnB booked and my next trip planned.
Thanks so much for checking out this adventure!
