There are so many ways to meditate...in fact there isn't really a wrong way. Here are a few popular methods for meditation;
From the Buddhist tradition. Mindfulness meditation is all about getting in tune with the present moment and the inner experience. Mindfulness can be practiced anywhere. One great way to achieve mindfulness is through a body scan. First focus on the head, the face, the jaw...release any tension. Bring attention to the mouth, the throat and the breathe...slow your inhales and exhales.
Bring your awareness next to your shoulders and back...send your breath to the parts holding tension. Next bring your attention to your tummy and digestive system, send your healing breath here. Become aware of your pelvic floor and breathe love into it. Bring attention to the legs and release any tension. Finally think of just your fingers and toes...squeeze and release them. This practice will bring you into your body and mind as well as into the present moment.
From the Zen Buddhist tradition, this method focuses on an object or concept in order to gain insight into the nature of human existence.
When practicing Zen Meditation, focus on the breath as you inhale and exhale. Gain a quiet awareness of the present moment and come to define it without words.
